What qualifications do I need to charter a bareboat sailing yacht?

To charter a sailing yacht in Greece it is necessary for two crewmembers (skipper and co-skipper) to have sailing certificates proving their competence. This certificate can be any kind of paper issued by a "yachting" authority such as sailing club, sailing school, yachting/sailing association, established charter companies, etc.

What to take?

The storage space on board is limited so do remember to bring your luggage in soft bags not suitcases. Life ashore is very informal so a large wardrobe of clothes is not necessary. On board you will spent most of your time in swimsuits or shorts and tee shirts. Many people prefer to swim without any clothes at all! We also offer cruises for 100% naturists. Sun hats are strongly recommended. Those holidaying in the early or late part of the season are advised to bring a light sweater or two and a light shower-proof jacket as the evenings may be cooler than you expect. In the summer the sun is very strong and amplified by reflection from the sea, so bring your own sunscreen lotions (not oil-based) and perhaps a light-weight long sleeved garment to protect your skin from harmful rays. Bed linen is provided but please bring your own towels. If you have a sailing license, please bring it with you. Don't forget to arrange for travel-accident insurance.

A typical day on a skippered yacht.

If you travel on one of our yachts with skipper you can spend your trip doing virtually nothing but sunbathe and cool off with a dip, maybe read a book too, or you can be a bit more energetic and go windsurfing and longer-distance swimming. You can even haul ropes under the skipper's instructions if you like. As they say, the choice is yours to be a bit lazy or very lazy.

The crew won't normally make the breakfast until enough people are up and about to justify possibly waking the remainder. You'll probably have docked in a quiet bay, within tender-reach of a taverna, but sometimes you could be in a port. After breakfast and perhaps a swim, you'll usually head for another bay to swim and windsurf, lounge about, and have lunch. After that, you'll probably go somewhere else for the evening. Generally, itinerary decisions are taken on a daily basis and the captain will try and do what the guests ask him. His job is to please as many people as possible for as much of the time as possible, with safety and, eventually, your ultimate week-ending transfer always firmly in mind.

Naturism:

Many guests prefer to swim and sunbathe naked and that's certainly fine by us; but please respect the other guests.

Our yachts are inspected regularly and maintenance is performed to keep our vessels in perfect working condition. They are also inspected from top to bottom after every rental.

antipaxoskleinSpring in Greece is delightful (April, May, through mid-June), bursting with lovely smells and color on land and a calm sea that makes sailing a pleasure.  The sapphire waters of the Ionan Sea are still a bit cool, but during May the days begin to get warmer.

The climate in Greece from Mid-June through July and August is dry and warm. On sultry evenings you will enjoy warmth, tranquil waters, and outstanding sunsets.
In September and October the harbor towns bustle with tourists and Greece is a virtual paradise: the sea warm after the summer sun, the days get shorter, the wind is moderate, and the sunsets outrageous.
